4 Fun Math Review Games for Middle School Math

When it comes to end of year review, or math test prep, in middle school math, none of use feel like spending forever creating or prepping math review activities for our middle school classrooms! That is why these end of year math review games, which include review games for 5th grade math, 6th grade math, 7th grade math, and 8th grade math are the perfect activities. They are extremely engaging for students, don’t take long to set up, and provide math review of some essential math concepts for each grade level.

What is included in each math Review frenzy Game?

Each math Review Frenzy game includes the following items:

  • Rules and Teacher Instructions

  • Review Frenzy Game Board

  • 34 Review Frenzy Playing Cards (math problems)

  • Answer Key

  • Digital Google Slides Version of the Game

How do you play the math review games?

Gameplay is designed to be easy to learn and engaging for students. Students begin by placing their game piece on one of the Start spaces. Taking turns, they flip over a playing card and try to find the correct answer. If correct, they move ahead the number of spaces indicated on that card. If incorrect, they stay where they are.

If at any time, a player lands on a “Feeling Lucky” space, the roll a die. If they roll a 1-3, they move ahead 2 spaces. If they roll a 4-6, they move back 2 spaces. This adds an element of luck, so it isn’t always the strongest math students winning the game. :)

How easy are the review games to prep?

The games are very easy to prep and get ready. Depending on how many groups you have, you will need to print one game board and set of playing cards for each group. If you don’t have time to prep the multiple game boards and playing cards, I have also played this as a Teacher vs. Class game. The teacher plays as “Player 1” and the class plays as “Player 2.” When the class is solving problems, they can all try the problem on their own first, before going over it as a class and moving their piece.

The only extra materials you will need that are not included in this game are game pieces (you can even use scraps of paper!) and a die for each group.
