7 Fall and Halloween Math Activities for Middle School
When autumn comes around, some fun fall and Halloween math activities are the perfect fit for your classroom. Whether it’s reviewing operations with whole numbers and decimals, writing and solving equations, unit rates and ratios, or other math concepts, these 7 fall or Halloween themed math activities will have students asking for more!
(1) Fall and Halloween Math Board Games
If you know me, you know I love middle school math board games as a way to make math more exciting and fun for students. I created TWO fall and Halloween themed math games recently. This Halloween themed Operations With Whole Numbers Fall Frenzy game and this Halloween themed Solving One Step Equations and Inequalities Fall Frenzy game are both great options to add some fun to the middle school classroom.
(2) Fall and Halloween Math Scavenger Hunts
Math scavenger hunts are always a fun addition for the classroom. They also make excellent sub plans! Of all the math activities I have used, these scavenger hunts surprised me the most with how engaging they were for students. The built in movement breaks are a huge plus for middle school students!
I recently added a Halloween Percents Scavenger Hunt, a Halloween Rounding Decimals Scavenger Hunt, a Halloween Operations with Decimals Scavenger Hunt, AND a Halloween Writing Equations Scavenger Hunt for your students to try!
In each activity, the problems are posted around the room. The answer to each question leads students to their next problem, until they make it back to where they started!
(3) Fall shopping for the deal unit rate activity
This fall themed finding and comparing unit rate activity is a great way to practice unit rates during the fall months. You can grab your Fall Shopping for the Deal Activity to use with your students. It is a simple, print and go activity, which also works great for sub plans!
Hope your students enjoy these fall and Halloween math activities for middle school! Have a great school year!
